Cummins swaps make sense for a great deal of applications, from Jeeps to Japanese pickup trucks and more. But it takes a special breed to want to take on these engineering feats with a Mazda Miata.

Such a project is what Pistonhead Productions is currently working on. It’s part and parcel of a greater vision that PP has to bring automotive enthusiasm back to the youth of today, which is now being crowdfunded on Indiegogo.

PP’s Jacob Gettins goes on record to better explain the fundraising campaign and what its true goal is. Jacob clearly has an appreciation for all things automotive, and points to his background in the high school shop class as the crucial stepping stone that fostered his passion early on. His alma mater, Huntsville High School in Huntsville, Ontario, is to be the beneficiary of funds raised by the campaign that don’t go toward the Miata build.

Pistonhead Productions hopes the fundraising campaign will help revitalize the Huntsville High School’s shop class.

In essence, Gettins hopes to support the high school’s shop class through his Indiegogo campaign and have it “breed more gearheads,” as he describes. The Miata, meanwhile, will be an interesting project that gets built in a matter of 48 hours and then taken all over the place to shred tires and provide a good time for all.

At the time of this writing, the campaign still has 17 days left to raise $10,000 CAD (Canadian Dollars). It’s nearly halfway at $4,122. Is this a project worth donating toward? Or would you rather see Pistonhead Productions try something else? Let us know in the comments below.
