From time to time, we have all done stupid things in the name of a dollar. Someone bets you a dollar you cannot do something and it is on. So, we aren’t one to pass judgment on others because you never know what was going on behind the scene,s but we would certainly say this is a “Don’t Try This At Home” type of a stunt!
Nic Ashby from Rockstar Performance Garage wanted to prove how great of a product Heatshield Products’ Lava Wrap is. If you aren’t familiar with it, here are the highlights!
- The wrap is made of actual crushed volcanic rock
- 25% stronger than fiberglass wraps (means improved life and greater durability)
- Very cool carbon fiber look
- 1200 degrees F continuous
- 2000 degrees F intermittent
- Noncombustible
- Available in 1” or 2” widths
So, Ashby puts on a sleeve over this arm and then wrapped his arm in one lay of Lava Exhaust Wrap. The sleeve is there to ensure that he doesn’t get itchy because this stuff isn’t the plushiest of materials. Then he holds his arm up to a propane flame.
Tell us this; would you hold your arm up to a flame like this without protection? Generally, it is the owner of the company’s stunt. Bill Simpson believed in his fire suits and in ’87 set himself on fire to prove the suits actually worked. Since then, how many guys do you see setting themselves on fire to re-prove they work simply because they believe in them?
Here we have a guy, who isn’t related to the owners or anything at Heatshield Products setting himself on fire to prove that these things work. Just crazy! If they are able to knock down the heat to protect a human’s skin, think of what they can do for under hood temperatures?
