Ok, so admittedly we love countdowns. This could be the weekly top 40 on the radio, the Travel Channel’s top destinations, theme park anything, or really any type of countdown. It doesn’t seem to matter to much on the subject. So, when we came across this countdown of five of the largest dump trucks in the world, you know we were all in!

#5-Holding the number 5 spot is a 281.6 ton Hitachi EH5000ACII. This bad boy weighs in a 528,208KGS (1,164,500lbs) and rocks a commanding 2,700HP holding 1,000 gallons of fuel in it’s tank. Now when you watch the video, note the steps that are included to even get up to the top.  Holy Cow!

#4-Rocking out the number 4 spot is the 320 ton Komatsu 930E-3SE. This big beast holds it’s stature weighting in a 504,394 KGS (1,112,000 lbs) and hosts a monster 3,500HP. This Komatsu is the largest bulldozer in the world and holds 1,200 gallons of fuel.

Bucyrus MT 6300 AC

#3-Holding steady in the middle of the pack is the 363 ton Caterpillar (Originally a Terex, who was sold to Bucyrus, who sold to Cat) MT 6300 AC. This rolling monster weights in at 543,311KGS (1,198,000lbs) and is powered with 2,700 horsepower. It’s overall size is impressive as it is 26 ft tall and 51 ft long holding 800 gallons of fuel. Now, that we are into the top three, price tags have started to be included and yes, this precious machine could be yours for the small price of $4-5 million per truck.

#2-Rounding out the top 2 spots is the 380 ton Caterpillar 797B (photo above). Now, being in the top two you know this truck clearly is going to be large enough to hold it’s own in just about any situation and weighting in a 623,690KGS (1,375,000lbs), it can definitely do that. This crazy machine boasts 3,550HP and carries 1,800 gallons of fuel. Being used primarily in the high production mining and construction arena, you are sure to be amazed when this truck rolls by standing 7.6 Meters (25 ft) high (empty) and 14.5 Meters (48 ft) long. Feeling like you want one of these to add to your collection at home? For only $5-6 million per truck it could be yours.

Interesting Fact: A single tire for the 797B costs more than $35,000, is four meters (13 ft) high and weighs over 15,000 kilograms (33,000 lbs). These trucks known as “Ultra Class” trucks, some of which, can be driven by remote control. They are used strictly for mining and heavy dirt hauling jobs.

#1-Finally, we’re up to the number one spot and it’s nothing to sneeze at. The Liebherr T 282 B is, at this moment in time, the largest truck in the world. It is driven by a 90 liter diesel engine capable of producing 3,650 horsepower, which weighs approximately ten and a half tons. This truck is actually a hybrid as its diesel engine powers two electric engines that are located in the rear axle of the truck. At about 60,000 operating hours the T 282 B uses approximately 2 million litres (little over 1/2 a million gallons) of fuel.  Now, the only thing you need to remember is this not your regular “dump truck”. The more appropriate term in the construction industry for this vehicle is, ‘Haul’ truck. The price for one of these trucks is about $ 3.5 million dollars. Seems like a bargin to us compared to some of the other options higher on the list.
