Vehicles that ditch traditional tires in favor of snow tracks become exponentially cooler. Case in point: Heavy-D put Supercar Ron’s Tesla Cybertruck on tracks. No matter how much you may dislike the vehicle, there’s no denying that those tracks put it over-the-top. It’s a notion even vehicle manufactures understand, as we’ve seen innumerable concept vehicles built with snow tracks. Even companies like Nissan have gotten in on the game, building the impressive Rogue Warrior concept way back in 2017.
The latest venture into the world of snow track concepts comes to us from Ram Professional. Ram Professional is the work truck and fleet sales division of Stellantis’s Ram brand. A video recently shared on LinkedIn, of all places, shows the company’s latest collaboration with one of its preferred outfit companies, Basin Upfitting.
Helltraxx Tracks Make Ram HD Even Cooler
With locations in Boise, Idaho, and Salt Lake City, Utah, Basin Upfitting is no stranger when it comes to snow. The short clip shows a 2024 model Cummins-powered Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel. The truck has been equipped with not only a custom service box but also a rear bumper-mounted crane and massive dual snow tracks by Helltraxx. But wait, there’s more. Also featured is Basin Upfitting’s Crew Cab Ram 2500 Heavy Duty with a utility flatbed, bumper-mounted Ventruo ET6K crane, and the same Helltraxx snow tracks.
The video shows the Ram Heavy Duty Rebel on tracks driving through deep snow at a ranch in the mountains. It then cuts to a montage of Basin Upfitting adding the Helltraxx snow tracks to the second truck. This truck then uses its crane to load a snow track-equipped motorcycle onto its flatbed before switching to images of rescuing a stranded ATV rider.
Tracks Make Trucks More Functional, Too
In its post, Ram Professional asks, “What applications could you see a snow track converted Ram truck serve?” Naturally, the top comments turn to search-and-rescue and ski patrol type environments.
The snow track conversions are the centerpieces and most interesting parts of the builds. Helltraxx is based in Sterling Heights, Michigan, not far from Ram’s Sterling Heights Assembly plant. The company’s dual-track system utilizes a pair of 35-inch-wide Camso Epic 280 snow tracks at each corner. The tracks are slung on a proprietary drive system.
The tracks take about an hour to install and weigh 330 pounds apiece. They are designed for medium-duty vehicles with gross vehicle weight ratings (GVWR) under 10,000 pounds. These units are intended for a cruising speed of between 40 and 60 mph with a top speed of 80 mph. The tracks themselves are 162 inches long and feature a 2.8-inch-deep lug. With 2,400 square inches of coverage per track they have no issue keeping the heavy Ram afloat.
If you’re interested in getting a set of Helltrax snow tracks for your Ram 2500 Heavy Duty, be prepared for a bit of sticker shock. Helltrax doesn’t publish the cost of its track systems, however, the cost for the rubber track alone can reach as high as $3,000 per pair. Spending upwards of $25,000 to outfit a pickup with snow tracks is not out of the question.
