Reader’s Rig: Stewart Ingraham’s Cummins Swap Super Duty Ford

Cummins swap

In the realm of diesel truck transformations, Stewart Ingraham’s 2008 Ford Super Duty F-350 from Merrimack, New Hampshire, stands as evidence of the dedication of its owner and the expertise of those who have brought it to life. Over the past decade, this formidable machine has undergone a remarkable evolution, transitioning from a built 6.4-liter engine to a Cummins swap powerhouse that now commands attention on and off the drag strip.

Stewart’s journey began with the challenges of head gaskets and tuning issues on the original 6.4-liter engine. Seeking a robust solution, he made the pivotal decision to tackle a Cummins swap. Firepunk Diesel took the reins of the build. What started as a quest for reliability soon snowballed into a comprehensive performance-targeted upgrade session, including a back-half transformation and the addition of an 8.50-certified roll cage.

The evolution continued with subsequent visits, each marked by significant improvements aimed at enhancing consistency and preparing the truck for drag-and-drive events. The laundry list of upgrades includes a transbrake valvebody, air shifter, front coilovers, parachutes, and other enhancements that contribute to the truck’s outstanding performance.

Although some may disagree with the removal of the factory engine, you have to understand that he did try to work with it. Even you loyal Ford fans, have to admit, the Cummins powerplant is a trustworthy candidate. Opting for a Cummins engine in a Ford, creating a "Fummins," brings several advantages.

Under the hood, the Cummins swap in the F-350 packs a punch with a D&J Precision Machine‘s Enforcer Cummins engine, 400-percent-over stock S&S Diesel Motorsport injectors, dual 12mm Exergy Performance CP3s, and a trio of 75/72/72 triple turbos. The Firepunk Comp3 48RE transmission with a 35-spline input ensures that power is efficiently transmitted to the ground. Per Ingraham, “D&J Products played a crucial role in the truck’s transformation, providing key components such as the Enforcer, and Intake Elbow, and delivering incredible customer service throughout the build.”

The idea to drag and drive this truck sounds like a high-stress situation. Not to mention, the aftermarket support for a Cummins is much like the small-block Chevrolet engine.
