Everyone loves to win awards, right? Who wouldn’t want to be rewarded for all of the good things they have accomplished in life, their career, etc. So, when we hear that one of our vendor partners has won an award, we’re on it. We bring you the story to not only let you know of the awards they are winning but to let you know of the level of excellence they are providing in the automotive world.

Recently, BorgWarner received the Award of Excellence from Volvo Cars in the category of Cost Competitiveness. Now, we know what you’re thinking, Volvo Cars, not trucks. Just keep in mind that all over the world there are diesel cars including here in the US and Volvo is no exception. BorgWarner delivers a variety of leading turbocharging technologies to Volvo Cars, including regulated two-stage (R2S) systems for diesel engines and turbochargers with a modular design for gasoline engines. These leading technologies are engineered to improve fuel economy, reduce emissions and increase performance in numerous engines.

So, let’s take a quick look at the diesel technology BorgWarner is being rewarded for with this award.  BorgWarner’s R2S turbocharging technology for diesel engines combines two turbochargers of different sizes. At low engine speeds, the entire exhaust gas flow is directed to the smaller, high-pressure turbocharger, resulting in a quick rise in boost pressure. At higher engine speeds, the wastegate valve opens, and the exhaust gas is redirected to the larger low-pressure turbocharger. By optimizing the full engine speed range, the R2S turbocharging system helps improve fuel economy and reduce emissions while enhancing performance.
