For off-road enthusiasts, a common problem when out in the rugged terrain is differential clearance. Larger tires offer added height to allow your differential to get away from the ground or obstructions. But the larger tire creates its own host of clearance issues.
For instance, a 40-inch tire would be great for clearance, looks, and durability, but would require a pretty tall lift kit to allow free steering. Or will it? Thanks to Fab Fours, they now offer the Open Fender System. A fender system that allows you to run a 40-inch tire with no lift kit.
These fender flares are some of the most aggressive, military-style exterior pieces you can buy for your truck. “These kits are specifically designed for professional installation,” Gregg Higgs of Fab Fours explained. “Meaning they have a template to use to ensure perfect coverage with the new flare.”
With the exception of a leveling kit on the front, that’s the only suspension modification required. This open fender system cuts the factory fenders back enough to allow the 40-inch tall tires to clear at all angles, and covers the cuts up with some sick looking fender flares.
“After this installation, you’ll have a refined truck with all of the stock advantages,” Higgs said. “The back of your truck will still be the same. You can still hook up to a fifth-wheel trailer and tow with it. Show me a truck on 40-inch tires that can pull a fifth-wheel.”
