Dating all the way back to 1946, Fluidampr has been making some of the best harmonic balancers on the market. We’re sure most of you know what a harmonic balancer does for the engine, but for those who don’t – a harmonic balancer reduces destructive crankshaft torsional vibration, which is the end-to-end twisting/rebound motion, that is naturally generated during each power stroke.
Recently available for diesel applications, Fluidampr makes a balancer for virtually every diesel Chevrolet, Ford, and Cummins engine. Performance diesel engines are not only for drag racing or sled pulling, though. Performance upgrades are also made on daily work trucks where additional horsepower and torque are more than welcome.
With their line of performance diesel balancers, Fluidampr is promoting why balancers are very crucial to a diesel engine, or any engine for that matter. Balancers are also very crucial when enhancing performance of the engine. The increase in performance overworks the stock rubber damper because of its inability to self tune to the increased harmonic vibrations.
Some results of controlled harmonics include reduced bearing wear and risk of crankshaft failure, improved valve timing and valvetrain operation, improved engine and fuel efficiency. All of those benefits listed do, in fact increase horsepower and torque. “Though we typically see horsepower and torque improvements with a Fluidampr on diesels, the real reason is for durability and longevity,” stated Paul Bennett of Fluidampr.
