You remember JENGA from when you were a kid right? The stacking and extracting of smooth wood blocks that led to the inevitable outburst “JENGA!” as the stack toppled. Well what if some crafty adults took the game to a whole new level? That’s what Caterpillar did in an effort to exhibit the capabilities of their famed heavy equipment.

Caterpillar’s publicity campaign entitled “Built For It Trials” showcases their flagship equipment from each class to demonstrate the power and precision of Caterpillar systems. Other such demonstrations include the delicate sculpting of a massive sand castle, and a mobile putting green in the bed of a massive loader.

This video features five of Caterpillars diesel powered industrial vehicles. The 320E is a tracked excavator equipped with an H120E hammer, and powered by a 153 hp 6.6-liter engine. The TH514C and 277D represent the Telehandlers (large industrial fork lifts).

An M316D wheeled excavator is equipped with a grapple to gently lift and set the blocks. And lastly the most powerful machine coming in at 396 hp with a C13 ACERT engine is the 349E excavator with a traditional bucket.

Wielding this variety of industrial articulation and power, the machines go at the stack of pine with the precision guided aide of a spotter. Fittingly accompanying this exhibition is a sound track of “Peter and The Wolf” setting the mischievous tone of this playful exercise. The stack is comprised of 27 blocks weighing in at 600 pounds each. Using the tines of the telehandlers, and hammer on the 320E the blocks are gently slid out of place and removed care of the clamping force lent by the grapple.

As the mechanical ballet proceeds, the tempo increases, and so does the tension of the game. Finally after a tipsy sway, the stack tumbles. Creative uses for heavy machinery are always fun to watch and this is one example guaranteed to make you smile!
