Mike Ryan is best known for sliding his race tuned hillclimb Freightliner up the windy curves of Pike’s Peak. In a drifting exhibition of gas versus diesel Tanner Foust and Mike Ryan slid their way around Laguna Seca for Mike Ryan’s answer to Ken Block in “Size Matters”.
The Mustang driven by Foust is obviously the nimbler of the two drift machines however what the semi may lack in grace it makes up for in style! No mere Freightliner cab without a trailer. This purpose built race truck rides on custom adjustable suspension featuring KING coilovers with remote reservoirs, big disc brakes, and wide rear rubber to plant he power on the road.
If the size and weight weren’t enough (and obviously they aren’t) the Freightliner is forced down by a huge spoiler over the rear wheels.
Laguna Seca is known for three things; its affiliation with Mazada, its beautiful Northern California location, and THE CORK SCREW! This famed turn is feared and loved by drivers and spectators alike.
The left/right chicane is blind, and offers the most extreme drop of any corner commonly known to race fans.
Watching drivers navigate this obstacle is stressful enough watching from the comfort of your home on the tv, but crossed up sliding sideways into and out of this concrete monster of a bend takes skill. Ryan steers his Frieghtliner with the confidence of a surgeon through the legendary turn.
Mike Ryan has proven he is the semi truck king of Pike’s Peak, now look for the formula drift semi road racing association at a track near you!
