If you’ve seen one or all of the movies Pacific Rim, Avatar, Ironman, or RoboCop, the man-like machine in the video above and below may remind you of the heavily armored and armed robots that can be inhabited by or controlled by a person, allowing them to perform super-human jobs.
Whether you have seen something like this or not, you now can own one of these massive mobile human-like machines. One of them just went up for sale on Amazon for a paltry $1,000,000. (Click here to see the listing in Amazon Japan.)
Yes, that’s one million dollars, and it turns out you don’t even get the arms with all the firepower for your cool million. We dove a little deeper into the news and found that this 13-foot tall, five-ton robot was the work of a Japanese company called Suidobashi Heavy Industry. With a name like that, you would think it made mining or construction equipment, but the company was formed by a blacksmith named Kogoro Kurata.
Kurata has an artistic bent, and just so happens to be a bit obsessed with the mecha (a science fiction genre focused on robots and machines controlled by humans) and anime (Japanese computer animated productions) that he grew up watching and reading as a young man. His invention, the Kuratas is a 13-foot tall robot, with a weight of 5 tons, that can move and a top speed of 10 kilometers per hour.
While the Kuratas has been labeled a “toy,” the huge robot features a number of weapons systems. The most ominous is the Gatling gun arm that fires BBs at a rate of 6,000 per minute. Working with a partner, Kurata has developed an operating software for his robot creations that run its 30 hydraulic actuators, controlling the machine’s movements. It can be controlled from a seat inside the robot or from the outside through an iPhone.
So what would you do with this million-dollar toy? If you want more information on the Kuratas, and how to place your order for a custom-built and painted, fully functional Kuratas robot check out the company’s website.
