Leave it to Russia to take our engineering marvals and build an inferior, uglier copy. For example, we build the B-29 Bomber that ends WWII, Russia builds the Tu-4, We build the Space Shuttle they build the Buran, and there are tons of other examples. Recently they have decided to imitate the Humvee (and perhaps the Warthog from HALO) and have created the ZiL.
Commissioned by the Russian Government in 2010, the ZiL Armored Car is designed to be a modern frontline personal carrier. It’s designed to haul up to ten Russian infantrymen to the front lines. Carrying it there is a 185 horsepower four cylinder (4BT most likely) Cummings diesel mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. Specifics on the armored vehicle have yet to be released. We do know that the Zil is 2.56 meters (8 feet) tall and weighs 4.57 metric tons (10,000lbs). Due to it's ugliness perhaps NATO should nickname it the mole rat... or perhaps the Gorbachev.
It has a glass dashboard made up of 10 displays which playback a live feed gathered from 6 exterior cameras mounted around the vehicle.
Similar to the vehicles from the Soviet Era, the modern Zil looks cheap. Instead of high quality, sturdy seats, there are small chairs that look like they belong on a golf cart. We aren’t sure how effective in combat ShootinPutin187‘s new machine is going to be but we’re sure it will make great target practice for the A-10 Warthog.
