Recently, in what might seem like an out of balance challenge, the high performance semi- truck, the Volvo FH and, the ultimate supercar, a Koenigsegg One:1, threw down in a one-on-one adrenaline packed, faceoff taking place at the Knutstorp Track in Southern Sweden. This unique challenge arose when Volvo decided they wanted to demonstrate the abilities of the I-Shift Dual Clutch gearbox in their Volvo FH.
The notion that an eight ton truck would, in any situation, be able to go against the supercar from hell, the Koenigsegg, is at minimum ridiculous. However, it was “game on” when Volvo enlisted Tiff Needell, a TV presenter on the British motoring program the “Fifth Gear” to not only host the competition but to set behind the wheel of Volvo FH semi-truck in their track challenge. On the opposing end Robert Serwanski, Volvo’s pro-test driver, would pilot the high performance Koenigsegg in this unique track sparring.
Knowing the unusual dual was not quite on a level playing field, the 540hp Volvo FH was given a handicap. With the goal now set to see if the Volvo FH and its new gearbox technology could manage a lap on the Knutstorp Track before the 1360hp Koenigsegg One:1 could get two laps in the fun commenced.
The track challenge displayed on many levels the ability of the I-Shift Dual Clutch and how this new technology will enhance the everyday performance of the FH. Exhibiting a noticeable improvement in slope handling, braking and a seamless changing of the gears in the most extreme endurance exhibition, the Volvo FH track challenge was a success in showcasing the capabilities of the new I-Shift Deal Clutch gearbox.
“Matching a Volvo FH against a Koenigsegg One:1 was a great challenge, to see if our new gearbox delivers what it promises in terms of driveability,” says Per Nilsson, PR Director at Volvo Trucks. With that said without revealing the final results of who one this unusual track challenge, we can say the opponents gave an impressive fun filled show of the Volvo technology on many levels. What do you think of this unique pairing and given the chance which one would you captain on this track challenge?
