Ram Trailing Arms Upgrade For Fourth- And Fifth-Gen Trucks

Ram Trailing Arms Upgrade For Fourth- And Fifth-Gen Trucks

Whether you use your truck to haul and tow heavy loads or simply drive it as a daily commuter, we all want our trucks to look the best they can. What’s more, we want them to perform as best they can as well. For some Ram truck owners, that means upgrading the trailing arms for not only good looks, but also the benefits they can offer. While walking around the vendor midway at the Ultimate Callout Challenge, I ran into the guys at Brothers Diesel Products. I was impressed to learn they have created some great-looking Ram trailing arms that will improve the rear suspension of your 2014 through 2024 coil spring Ram

Unfortunately, factory Ram trailing arms offer no adjustability and those OE bushings within the bars will wear out over time causing severe ride and geometry issues. This lack of adjustability can lead to other problems if any other suspension mods are made. And why worry about bushings going bad if you don’t have to?

Ram trailing arms

The new trailing arms are simple to install and offer benefits not attainable with the OE bars.

The Brothers Diesel Performance 72-inch traction bars will improve the rear suspension for your Ram 2500 coil spring truck by replacing the lower OE trailing arm with this adjustable lower bar. Doing this allows you to dial in your suspension, improve suspension geometry, and increase suspension travel. What’s more, is they do not use rubber bushings that will wear out.

The kit comes with heavy-duty 1/4-inch-thick brackets that mount to your rear axle, a bolt-on heavy-duty bracket that mounts to the upper frame rails, A traction bar made of 2x.250-inch-wall 1026 DOM tubing, and new upper control arms also made out of 2-inch 1026 DOM tubing. The traction bars and new upper control arms use 2 ½-inch chromoly steel Johnny Joints that are rebuildable and greaseable.

But why would you want longer trailing arms? Upgrading to longer control arms under your rig can smooth out the ride, increase travel potential, and reduce stress on the vehicle and its suspension components. When discussing trailing arms, the closer to horizontal they are, the better. As the arm strays from the horizontal plane, it changes the geometry of the suspension. Extreme control arm angles are harder on your suspension’s components and can cause a harsh ride, poor handling, and limited suspension travel. A short control arm coupled with an intense operating angle will have the less range of motion versus a longer arm placed at less of an angle.

These new Ram trailing arms are available raw, or powder coated, and installation does require minimal drilling and trimming of the lower trailing arm mount. This upgrade can be completed in an afternoon in your driveway with simple hand tools. Since the bars are better and easy to install, what are you waiting for? There’s no time like the present to upgrade your Ram trailing arms.
