#17: Randy Reyes – Randy’s Transmission
Two-time Ultimate Callout Challenge competitor Randy Reyes is an unconventional type of guy and that probably has a lot to do with his choice of a 2006 Dodge Ram four-door dually for his competition truck. But, he sure does get a lot of performance out of that big, heavy truck, and it is still streetable.
Coming in at a slender 7,700-pound race weight, Reyes’ big dually is motivated by an Industrial Injection built Shredder 5.9-liter Cummins engine that was built for maximum power in a reliable package. The Cummins engine is force few tons of air thanks to a compound triple-turbo system that features a pair of BorgWarner S488 turbos over an S500 that was designed and fabricated by the team at Industrial Injection.
Of course, Industrial also worked their magic on the engine’s fuel high-pressure pressure pumps and injectors delivering more than enough fuel to keep up with the huge turbo array. Fuel is delivered from the tank to the high-pressure pumps through a pair of FASS pump and filter systems.
On the dragstrip in 2016 Reyes laid down an impressive 9.628-second pass that was good enough for seventh place but had trouble putting the power to the track in Indianapolis at the 2017 UCC where despite having six tires on the ground he seemed to spend as much time spinning the tires and getting sideways as he did going straight. He has also struggled with the sled pull finishing in 11th in 2016 and twisting the rear driveshaft and finishing in 17th in 2017.
Despite his troubles, Reyes is one of few competitors that have competed in every single UCC event in both years and he plans to extend that streak in 2018 while remedying his traction gremlins on the Indy drag strip and redeeming himself on the pull track. Reyes and his team are supported by his shop Randy’s Transmissions along with additional support and sponsorship from all of his great sponsors.
Whether or not Reyes and his dually win the 2018 Ultimate Callout Challenge we can be sure that the big truck will lay down tons of power and go bigger and faster than any big truck ever should. We certainly look forward to watching what Reyes and his team bring to the table for 2018 when the rubber hits the track, rollers, and dirt.
#18: Aaron Rudolf- Rudy’s Diesel Performance
Aaron Rudolf is a successful business owner that somehow is able to juggle his family responsibilities with the needs of his business and his passion for diesel motorsports. On the diesel motorsports side, he is one of the principals of the Outlaw Diesel Super Series and hosts two of the largest diesel events in the country.
Rudolf and his team put the first Power Stroke truck into the 9’s on the dragstrip and have also laid claim to the most powerful Power Stroke truck and their 2WD Power Stroke truck is now the world’s fastest Power Stroke truck as well. He competes in sanctioned diesel drag races with his 4WD F-250 on a regular basis.
After the 2016 UCC, Rudy’s team came back strong in 2017 with an 11th place finish on the drag strip with a hurt engine before laying down over 1,100 horsepower on the chassis dyno with zero oil pressure before the engine seized. The team thrashed on the truck replacing the engine overnight after the dyno and reconfiguring the truck for the sled pull where Rudolf pulled the sled nearly 250-feet to secure 9th place overall.
To deliver UCC worthy power levels with his 6.4-liter Power Stroke engine Rudy’s team went through the engine building it with the best parts they could and capped it off with a massive triple turbo compound setup that resides in front of the engine and fires the highly compressed intake charge into a custom machined manifold.
The 2016/2017 engine package has delivered nearly 2,000 HP on the chassis dyno in competition with more than 3,000 lb-ft of torque. It is backed by a Dodge 48RE transmission to handle the high output Power Stroke and provide crisp shifts through the gears on the dragstrip throughout the year.
They will not be satisfied with mid-pack performance and expect to deliver even more power to the rear wheels, quicker time on the drag strip and to drag the sled further down the track at the 2018 UCC. Knowing the amazing work the team has delivered in the past, we have high expectations for the next revision and look forward to seeing what Rudolf and his Ford will deliver in Indianapolis on May 4th-6th 2018 at the third annual Ultimate Callout Challenge!
