A Cummins Swapped Chevy With A Surprise Inside

Here is how the truck looked when it was brought home.

The evolution of trucks is a pretty amazing thing considering the overall shape is based on two things, square and curved body lines. Now think about taking something shaped like a brick and making it cool and your own style.

That’s exactly what Faith Sampe of Kewaunee, Wisconsin did. She took a 1991 square body Chevy truck and made it her own with the help of her father and friends. She is a self-proclaimed diesel girl and built a custom diesel truck to back up that statement.

She purchased the truck with just over 130,000 miles and it had a very straight body for its age. Best of all the body and frame were completely rust free. Over the next three years, the truck went under the knife for a complete transformation.

First on the list was to bring back the shine and cover up the tan primer. The interior was removed and the entire body received a dark gray color scheme, the frame was also cleaned up and painted to help prevent rust damage to her baby.

With new paint, lighting upgrades, wheels, and tires it began looking like a whole different truck.

When the truck was purchased it already had a six-inch suspension lift with decent wheels and tires. The lift was kept in place, but the wheels and tires were upgraded to a set of 20×12.5 Anthem Aviators wrapped in 35-inch Kumho Road Venture tires. The last bit of exterior upgrades included purple LED running lights, cowl hood, tow mirrors from a late model Silverado, and of course no more chrome trim.

Moving the truck swiftly down the road meant the small block 350 was next on the chopping block. Sticking with the mid 90s theme led to a 12 valve Cummins engine to replace the underpowered gas engine.

Before it was installed Faith painted the intake manifold, valve covers, and compressor housing on the turbo to give it a bit more of her own style. Much like the rest of the truck the engine is not stock and has a set of 75 horsepower fuel injectors as well as increasing fuel supply through the injection pump.

This was enough to satisfy her appetite for power for now, but she has plans to bump up the power and put some of the boy’s trucks to shame. The transmission is a heavy-duty 47RH which will also work temporarily until funding permits for an assembly from Suncoast.

As with any truck, it has its pros and cons. Faith claims her favorite part about the truck is the Cummins engine which makes good power and is very reliable. Her least favorite part is the ride quality, something these trucks are not known for. Her plan to remedy that is with an air ride suspension which should really help smooth things out.

Whether she feels the need to hit the dirt roads, tear up some tires on asphalt, or stop for a photo op, Faith's truck is ready for anything.

If you happen to see this truck on the road don’t be afraid to give Faith a thumbs up as she flies by. And remember this isn’t her father’s or boyfriend’s truck, it’s all hers!

The finished product is something she can enjoy for a long time and should be very proud of.
