Some people like to soak themselves in mud and think of it as serene, therapeutic even. Nutrients in the soil and whatnot. We don’t know what to say to those people other than, yeah, mud can be therapeutic … when it’s caked on a truck blazing through a bog!
That’s just the sort of activity we’ve come to love from the up-and-coming YouTube channel, Mudd Boggin in Florida. It started uploading footage back in 2012 and has since gathered over 3,300 subscribers and 1.3 million views on hundreds of videos. One of its latest videos was about this Dodge Ram monster truck made by Groeb Motorsports in Anthony, Florida.
The truck runs on 50-ton planetary axles, which are military-grade axles that can deal with the stress of rotating giant wheels and tires without breaking as easily as normal hub axles. That’s definitely a must as a truck like this Dodge Ram not only has to spin the tires, but do so while also digging deep into the mucky, sticky mud.
With passengers in the bed and inside the cab, the pickup goes around the arena with ease as its torquey diesel motor and paddle tires churn through the muck. But right around the 1:18 mark, it becomes clear the Dodge is missing any kind of locking mechanism that would help it escape. The rearend sinks, and no amount of switching between forward and reverse gears can save the Mopar. Only a heavy-duty construction vehicle will do, which eventually comes to the rescue near the end of the video.
