Who could have known that the pairing of Dodge Ram and Cummins would lead to such a lucrative partnership? Ever since the two firms joined together in 1989, bringing up the name “Ram” or “Dodge Ram” has been synonymous with “best in class,” as the Cummins B Series made the leap from agricultural vehicles to heavy-duty pickup trucks.
In this video, we see one of those first-gen Cummins pickups doing its thing on New Years Day. Now say what you want about celebrating the new year in Times Square or Las Vegas, but for our money, taking a truck out to go mudding sure beats nursing a hangover.
The truck was out at a mud bog in Louisiana as part of Mud Truck Madness on January 1st. From the looks of things, it’s a regular cab/regular bed and of course has four-wheel-drive, but lacks some all-important locking differentials which make mudding far more doable.
The truck goes not once, but several times straight into the bog, screaming as it plows into the muck. The first time ends in failure, as it manages to get completely stuck about halfway in. The tires lose traction, and the Dodge Ram turns into an immobilized mud churner until it gets yanked out.
The second time, the pickup does a shallower section of the mud bog and comes out okay. The third time is not a charm, however, as the driver studies the bog for a period of time, goes in, and gets stuck again against one bank of the bog. “You think long, you think wrong,” says a bystander.
Getting stuck happens to the best of us, especially in deep mud.
Until the driver decides to either hammer down the throttle or install a set of lockers, he should probably stick to the “kiddie pools” at these mudding events. When will you be taking your rig out for mudding? Let us know in the comments below.
